Global pre-orders for the Denza Z have exceeded 1,000 units within 24 hours of the model entering pre-sales in China, providing an early indication of market interest in BYD’s latest premium electric supercar.
Denza announced on Weibo that combined domestic and overseas pre-orders surpassed the 1,000-unit milestone after pre-sales opened on Monday. While the figure does not necessarily reflect future deliveries, it suggests the model has attracted attention from buyers in the high-performance electric vehicle segment.
Premium Performance Strategy
The Denza Z is available in three variants during the pre-sales period. The Coupe hardtop starts at 680,000 yuan (US$100,300), the Spider convertible is priced at 780,000 yuan, while the Racing track version starts at 1.18 million yuan. The company plans to officially launch the model in the fourth quarter.
The electric supercar made its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom last week before entering pre-sales in China.
In the UK, the Coupe hardtop starts at £142,900, while the Spider convertible and Racing versions are priced at £159,900 and £172,900, respectively.
The lower starting price in China could strengthen the model’s competitiveness in the domestic premium performance market, where it is expected to compete with vehicles including the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and Porsche 911.
Showcasing BYD’s Performance Technologies
Designed under the direction of automotive designer Wolfgang Egger, the Denza Z features a low-slung body, wide stance and aerodynamic styling intended to reinforce its supercar positioning.
The model is powered by a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system comprising one front motor and two rear motors. The three motors deliver peak outputs of 500 kW, 340 kW and 340 kW, respectively, for a combined system output of 1,180 kW (1,582 hp).
According to Denza, the Racing version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.96 seconds and has a designed top speed of 350 km/h. The Coupe and Spider versions complete the same sprint in 2.25 seconds and 2.3 seconds, respectively.
Expanding BYD’s Premium Portfolio
The Denza Z is the first electric supercar to feature BYD’s e3 technology platform and the first to adopt the company’s DiSus-M body control system.
The e3 platform enables tri-motor independent drive and dual-motor independent rear-wheel steering, while the DiSus-M system is designed to improve body stability during high-performance driving.
The vehicle also features BYD’s fully in-house developed steer-by-wire system, eliminating the traditional mechanical steering connection to provide greater flexibility in chassis control.
For BYD, the Denza Z serves not only as a new production model but also as a showcase for the company’s latest advances in electric propulsion, intelligent chassis systems and vehicle control technologies as it continues expanding its premium product lineup.
