DB Schenker has expanded its fleet in Germany with the addition of 40 new Volvo FM Electric trucks, marking a significant step in the company’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions. The trucks will be deployed across Germany starting this month to support the logistics operator’s last-mile delivery network.

The Volvo FM Electric trucks offer up to 490 kW of power and a range of up to 300 kilometers on a full battery charge. Charging options vary, with a full charge taking up to 9.5 hours using an AC connection, or as little as 2.5 hours with a direct current fast charger. DB Schenker highlights the vehicles’ versatility, stating that they are “ideal for various needs in the collection and delivery of shipments within the groupage network.”

This deployment marks the first time DB Schenker has introduced electric trucks capable of pulling trailers for last-mile delivery in Germany. The new trucks replace diesel-powered vehicles in this capacity, broadening the range of electric vehicle applications in the company’s logistics operations. “By deploying an additional 40 electric Volvos for last-mile delivery, DB Schenker underlines its commitment to leading the transition to sustainable drive systems,” said Cyrille Bonjean, Executive Vice President of Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe. “We will be able to offer low-emission transport solutions to our customers across the country.”

This is not DB Schenker’s first foray into electric truck deployment. Last summer, the company introduced electric trucks supplied by Renault in France. Additionally, DB Schenker has plans to acquire 100 eActros LongHaul trucks, with an order expected in early 2023, and has partnered with Volta Trucks for a fleet of 1,500 electric vehicles.
