Coop and freight technology firm Einride plan to transition grocery delivery operations in Sweden’s Uppland region to electric vehicles by the first half of 2026, as part of efforts to reduce transport-related emissions.
The Uppland region, located north of Stockholm and covering nearly 13,000 square kilometres, includes 23 Coop stores that require approximately 659,000 kilometres of annual deliveries. The companies estimate that shifting these operations to electric vehicles could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 912 tonnes per year.
“At Coop, we believe that every delivery can make a difference for our customers and the local community,” said Peter Rosendahl, head of Transport at Coop Sweden. “By partnering with Einride, we are taking a major step towards reducing our carbon footprint and proving that climate-smart logistics can go hand in hand with reliable grocery deliveries.”
The project combines electric trucks with charging infrastructure and Einride’s Saga AI platform, which is designed to support route planning and fleet optimization using operational data. According to the company, the system enables shippers to “meet transport demand with fewer vehicles, lower energy consumption, and reduced overall transport costs.”
“This milestone with Coop underscores the power of Einride’s freight mobility platform,” said Roozbeh Charli, Chief Executive Officer of Einride. “Transitioning an entire region to electric deliveries demonstrates our ability to deploy integrated hardware, software, and infrastructure in a way that improves fleet productivity.”
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Stockholm, Einride initially focused on autonomous freight solutions before shifting toward software-driven logistics systems. The company currently serves around 30 enterprise customers across seven countries and collaborates with firms including Rewe, Kaufland, Carlsberg, and Heineken.
The companies said the Uppland deployment could serve as a reference case for broader adoption of electric logistics in regional distribution networks.
Separately, Einride has announced plans to pursue a U.S. public listing through a merger with Legato Merger Corp. III, with completion expected in the first half of 2026.
