Stellantis said Xavier Chardon will take over as CEO of Citroen on June 2, 2025, replacing Thierry Koskas, who has led the French automotive brand since 2023. The company did not disclose Koskas’s future within the group or whether he would remain at Stellantis.
Chardon will report to Jean-Philippe Imparato, Stellantis’s Chief Operating Officer for the Enlarged Europe region. The company indicated that it does not plan to significantly alter Citroen’s direction following the leadership transition.
Chardon is expected to continue “the development of the brand by building on the recent launches of the C3, C3 Aircross and the all-new C5 Aircross,” Stellantis said in a statement.
The company gave no reason for the leadership change and offered no details on Koskas’s next assignment. “I would like to thank Thierry Koskas for leading the Citroen brand over the past two years and for revitalising the product range, most recently with the unveiling of the new C5 Aircross,” Imparato said.
Chardon brings nearly two decades of experience with Citroen, having held senior roles across Italy, Denmark, Germany, and France, where he last served as Citroen’s country chief in 2011. He subsequently held marketing and sales positions at Volkswagen Group, including as Vice President Sales at SAIC-VW in China. He has been CEO of Volkswagen Group France since 2021.
Stellantis did not specify any structural changes at Citroen or within its European leadership team following Chardon’s appointment. The group oversees a portfolio of 14 automotive brands and has been pursuing a strategy of electrification and cost efficiencies across its global operations.
