Chrysler has halted development of its long-awaited electric crossover, codenamed C6X, as the company reassesses its market strategy. According to a supplier communication obtained by Mopar Insiders, Chrysler instructed partners to suspend all expenditures associated with the program, stating the project is “on hold until further notice.”
The electric crossover was intended to mark Chrysler’s foray into the competitive EV market and was originally inspired by the Airflow concept unveiled at CES in 2021. That concept was later abandoned, with Chrysler pivoting to the C6X model, which would incorporate a new design language previewed in the Halcyon concept in early 2024. The crossover was initially planned for a 2025 debut, later delayed to 2026, but its future now remains uncertain.
Chrysler addressed the program’s suspension in a statement to Auto News, emphasizing that the project is not entirely canceled. “Chrysler brand CEO Chris Feuell confirmed the program is paused for now as we assess the market and our customers’ needs and wants,” the company said. Chrysler also reiterated its plans to expand its lineup, including a refreshed Pacifica minivan in 2026, a crossover shortly thereafter, and a third model influenced by the Halcyon concept.
With U.S. sales dropping 7% in 2023 to 124,683 units, Chrysler’s offerings remain limited to the Pacifica and its Voyager sibling. As the company celebrates its 100th anniversary, pressure is mounting for new models to sustain its relevance in a rapidly changing automotive landscape.
