Avatr Technology, the electric vehicle (EV) brand backed by Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, launched in Hong Kong on May 29 as part of its continued international expansion.
The company introduced its flagship Avatr 11 SUV to local consumers, offering two all-electric trims â Premium and Max â starting at HKD 513,800 (approximately $65,540) and HKD 608,800, respectively. Both variants are powered by ternary lithium batteries from CATL (SHE: 300750), with the Premium model featuring a 90-kWh battery and the Max version equipped with a 116-kWh pack.
During the launch event, Avatr also showcased the Avatr 012, a luxury limited-edition sedan restricted to 700 units globally. The model was co-designed by Avatrâs Chief Design Officer Nader Faghihzadeh and renowned fashion designer Kim Jones, the artistic director at Dior and Fendi, reflecting the brand’s ambition to merge cutting-edge mobility with high-end fashion aesthetics.
The move into Hong Kong adds to Avatr’s growing international presence, following earlier entries into Thailand and Qatar. The company initially launched the Avatr 11 in mainland China in August 2022, and most recently updated the model in May 2025 to include both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants. Prices in China start at RMB 289,900 for the EREV version and RMB 309,900 for the BEV.
Avatr was originally founded in 2018 as a joint venture between Changan and Nio (NYSE: NIO), with both holding equal stakes. Nio has since scaled back its involvement. In August 2021, Changan, CATL, and Huawei rebranded the company and announced plans to jointly develop EVs based on the CHN architecture, combining the strengths of the three firms.
