Chinese battery giant CATL has unveiled a new lineup of batteries under its Tectrans brand, designed specifically for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Announced on November 25, the new series includes supercharging, long-life, long-range, and durable versions, further broadening the Tectrans product range initially launched in July.
The Tectrans batteries address critical issues in heavy commercial vehicle electrification, including limited range, prolonged charging times, and battery lifespan degradation.
CATL claims its supercharging-enabled batteries feature a peak 4 C charging rate, enabling 70% charge in just 15 minutes.
With a capacity of 600 kWh and a range of up to 500 kilometers, these batteries are optimized for applications like mining and sludge transportation, significantly reducing charging times and improving operational efficiency.
The long-life version is designed for high-energy-demand scenarios such as medium- to long-distance heavy transportation. Boasting a 15-year, 3-million-kilometer lifespan, it supports a maximum range of 500 kilometers and battery-swapping options.
CATL estimates cost savings of over RMB 1 million ($138,000) over eight years compared to traditional fuel vehicles for trucks traveling 200,000 kilometers annually.
For extended service radius, the long-range battery offers a 1,000 kWh capacity and an 800-kilometer range with an energy density of 220 Wh/kg, the highest in the industry.
Meanwhile, the durable version targets construction machinery, providing mining trucks with enhanced safety and endurance up to 500,000 kilometers—four times the industry standard.
CATL reported that its Tectrans batteries are already in mass production and utilized in over 20 vehicle models across eight construction machinery manufacturers.
The company leads the domestic heavy-duty truck battery market, with a 30% share in the construction machinery segment and a 42.78% share of power battery installations in October, according to China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
