Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) has signed a new global strategic cooperation memorandum with Danish logistics group A.P. Moller–Maersk, marking an expansion of their long-term partnership as CATL continues to strengthen its global footprint.
The agreement, signed in Hong Kong on October 9, builds on the companies’ five-year collaboration in maritime transport and multimodal logistics. Under the new memorandum, Maersk will become CATL’s preferred global logistics partner, providing integrated services across ocean and air freight, project logistics, and warehousing, CATL said in a statement on Thursday.
The two firms plan to explore “efficient and scalable models” to enhance supply chain resilience amid shifting global trade dynamics. CATL said the collaboration aims to “advance its supply chain operations and support its international growth objectives” through customized solutions tailored to local market needs.
As part of the agreement, CATL and Maersk will also work together to apply CATL’s battery technology to decarbonize key logistics operations, including container shipping, port ecosystems, inland transportation, and warehousing. CATL will serve as Maersk’s preferred battery technology partner under its long-term decarbonization roadmap.
Maersk has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire global operations by 2040. The cooperation aligns with that goal by promoting electrification across critical logistics nodes.
In June, CATL announced a partnership with Maersk’s terminal operator subsidiary, APM Terminals, to deploy high-performance batteries in container-handling equipment to accelerate the electrification of port operations.
