Chinese automaker BYD is on the verge of introducing its first ultra-luxury electric sedan as part of the high-end Yangwang brand, with leaked specifications revealing impressive performance metrics. The BYD Yangwang U7, touted as the “million-level new energy flagship sedan,” has generated anticipation ahead of its official launch.

Images of the U7 surfaced earlier this month on BYD’s Weibo page, showcasing design elements inspired by the U9 supercar from the same brand. The sedan incorporates a “family style” design language, featuring slim LED headlights, Lidar on the roof, prominent air intakes, and carbon fiber side skirts, contributing to a sporty aesthetic.

The sedan, based on the e4 platform, is equipped with four electric motors boasting a combined power output exceeding 1,000 horsepower. Leaked data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveals that the BYD Yangwang U7 is set to feature a massive 135.5 kWh LFP battery pack from BYD’s unit, Findreams.

The leaked information indicates an impressive 497 miles (800 km) of CLTC driving range, offering two variants—a base model with 447 miles (720 km) and a longer-range option. The dimensions of the U7 position it slightly larger than the Tesla Model S Plaid, measuring 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height.

BYD’s foray into the ultra-luxury electric sedan market follows the brand’s recent introduction of the U8 off-road NEV in September. The U8, priced at over $150,000, boasts features such as 1,200 horsepower, tank turns, tire blowout stabilization, and an emergency “float mode” for water navigation.

While the official pricing for the Yangwang U7 is yet to be confirmed, expectations suggest it will be around $140,000 when launched later this year. The unveiling of the U7 represents BYD’s continued efforts to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in the competitive luxury segment.
