BYD is preparing to launch a new car carrier, BYD Changsha, as the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer continues expanding its dedicated shipping fleet, according to the semi-official Weibo account @小迪快报.
Named after BYD’s production base in Changsha, Hunan province, the vessel will be the company’s second car carrier with a capacity of 9,200 vehicles. A video shared by the account provided a glimpse of the ship, though further details were not disclosed.

BYD’s marine fleet currently includes four vessels: BYD Explorer No.1, BYD Hefei, BYD Changzhou, and BYD Shenzhen. The BYD Explorer No.1, with a 7,000-vehicle capacity, was chartered by BYD and entered service in January 2024.
The company’s first owned carrier, BYD Hefei, also with a capacity of 7,000 vehicles, completed construction in September 2024 and embarked on its maiden voyage to Europe on January 7, 2025, carrying approximately 5,000 NEVs.

BYD Changzhou, launched in October 2024, entered operation in December 2024 with a similar capacity and transported 5,000 NEVs on its maiden voyage. Meanwhile, BYD Shenzhen, boasting a 9,200-vehicle capacity, is the world’s largest automotive roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessel and completed un-docking on January 15, 2025.
BYD remains China’s top NEV manufacturer, having sold 4,272,145 NEVs in 2024, including 417,204 units in overseas markets.
