Munich-based BMW has unveiled a refreshed version of its iX electric SUV, introducing performance enhancements and range improvements while making only subtle design changes. The mid-cycle update sees a power boost across all three variants, alongside battery capacity increases that extend driving range. The model retains its signature styling, including the distinctive kidney grille and aerodynamic profile.
“The almost seamless design and larger areas painted in body color contribute to a sporty yet elegant presence,” BMW said in a statement. The facelifted iX now features redesigned air intakes, updated headlights, and BMWās ‘Iconic Glow’ illuminated contour lighting as standard on the iX M70 xDrive.

The drivetrain upgrades result in improved acceleration. The entry-level iX xDrive45, replacing the previous iX xDrive40, sees its system output increase by 60 kW to 300 kW, reducing the 0-100 kph sprint time to 5.1 seconds from 6.1 seconds. The mid-tier iX xDrive60, formerly the xDrive50, now delivers 400 kW, allowing it to reach 100 kph in 4.6 seconds. The top-of-the-line iX M70 xDrive gains an additional 30 kW, bringing total output to 485 kW, enabling acceleration from 0-100 kph in 3.8 seconds.
Battery capacity improvements have translated into longer driving ranges. The iX xDrive45 now offers up to 602 km on the WLTP cycle, a 40% increase from its predecessor’s 435 km. The iX xDrive60 achieves a maximum range of 701 km, compared to the previous 633 km, while the iX M70 xDrive sees its range extended to 600 km from 563 km. Charging speeds have also improved, with the entry-level model now supporting a peak charge rate of 175 kW, up from 150 kW, and AC charging capability increased to 22 kW across all variants.

BMW has introduced further optimizations to charging and software features. The updated iX now supports Plug & Charge Multi Contract, cost-optimized charging based on dynamic electricity tariffs, and improved route planning via the MyBMW app. Enhanced battery pre-conditioning aims to maximize charging efficiency.
Pricing adjustments accompany the technical upgrades. The iX xDrive45 now starts at ā¬83,500, up from ā¬77,300, reflecting its increased performance and range. Meanwhile, the iX xDrive60 sees a price reduction to ā¬99,900, and the iX M70 xDrive is now available at ā¬124,900, marking a ā¬18,200 decrease from its previous price.

BMW plans to introduce 800-volt battery systems with future ‘Neue Klasse’ models, a move expected to enhance charging speeds and efficiency. However, the iX continues to operate on a 400-volt system, with incremental advancements in power electronics and drivetrain efficiency contributing to its improved performance.
