BMW M4 Electric Coupe Expected to Arrive in 2029, Following M3 Electric Launch in 2027

BMW is set to usher in a new era for its M series, with the upcoming BMW M3 Electric (ZA0) slated for a 2027 release, marking the brand’s first full electric model in the performance M series.

The M3 Electric will launch alongside next-gen G84 models, which will continue to feature combustion engines. The German automaker’s focus on electric powertrains is further highlighted by the upcoming electric-only M4 Coupe, codenamed ZA2, expected to debut in 2029.

As part of its electrification strategy, BMW is positioning the M4 Electric Coupe as a fully electric performance model, diverging from the M3 lineup, which will retain models with both combustion and electric engines.

According to sources, the M4 will likely feature a similar powertrain to the quad-motor M3, but with exclusively electric propulsion. This follows the brand’s plan to utilize the Neue Klasse platform, designed to accommodate both electric and hybrid powertrains, for its M4 Electric as well as the BMW i4, set to launch in 2028.

The Neue Klasse platform, still under wraps, is expected to offer flexibility for various configurations, with reports indicating that the base M4 Electric will produce 700 horsepower, while a top-tier version may push up to 1,340 horsepower.

Design-wise, the M4 Electric is expected to feature a more minimalist approach with futuristic aesthetics, potentially moving away from the traditional large kidney grilles for sleeker, modern visuals.
