Avatr, the joint venture between Changan, CATL, and Huawei, has introduced the Avatr 06, a mid-size sedan that will be available in both pure electric and hybrid variants with a range extender.
This marks the fourth model from the brand, following the Avatr 07 crossover, the Avatr 11 SUV, and the Avatr 12 sedan. Set to debut in early 2025, the Avatr 06 is part of the brand’s new strategy, which now includes hybrid models alongside its electric vehicle (EV) offerings.
The Avatr 06 shares the CHN platform with other Avatr models, including the 07, and is similar in size to the latter, measuring 4.86 meters in length, 1.96 meters in width, and 1.45 meters in height. The sedan’s wheelbase is 2.94 meters, identical to the Avatr 07, but the 06 has a notably flatter body shape.
While the exact technical specifications have yet to be revealed, it is expected that the 06 will share much of the technology from the 07, which offers four different drive configurations (three BEVs and one EREV) with power ranges from 252 kW for the rear-wheel-drive variant to 440 kW for the all-wheel-drive variant.
The BEV versions are powered by CATL’s new Shenxing LFP battery, offering a capacity of 82.16 kWh and a fast-charging capability that can charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. Range estimates for the BEV versions are 650 km for the rear-wheel-drive and 610 km for the all-wheel-drive variants based on the CLTC cycle.
The model’s market debut is slated for early 2025, although Avatr is aiming for an earlier release to bolster its 2024 sales figures. Despite a sales total of 45,445 vehicles between January and November, the company is expected to fall short of its target for the year.
Avatr is a collaborative venture, with Changan holding a 40 percent stake, CATL owning 17 percent, and Huawei providing key technology. The brand was originally founded as ‘Changan Nio’ in 2018, with Nio later withdrawing from the joint venture due to development challenges.
