Avatr Technology, supported by Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, has launched its first vehicle offering both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options. The Avatr 07, a five-seat SUV, was revealed at a launch event on September 26. This marks a significant step for the brand as it expands its lineup with hybrid models to address consumer demand and increase sales.
The Avatr 07 is available in BEV and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, with the EREV version being the first to feature Avatr’s Kunlun extended-range system. The company also plans to release EREV versions of its existing Avatr 11 SUV and Avatr 12 sedan later this year. Additionally, over the next three years, Avatr plans to introduce 17 new models, including SUVs, MPVs, and coupes, indicating a broader strategy to diversify its product offerings.
The move toward EREVs reflects a broader trend in the Chinese electric vehicle market, where hybrid models are becoming increasingly popular due to their ability to address concerns over range limitations. EREVs offer a driving experience similar to fully electric vehicles while providing a range closer to that of traditional fuel-powered cars.
Specifications and Pricing of the Avatr 07
The Avatr 07 is positioned in the mid-sized SUV market and comes in both BEV and EREV versions, giving consumers a choice between full-electric and hybrid options. The vehicle measures 4,825 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,940 mm. While slightly smaller than competitors like the Li Auto Li L6, the Avatr 07 offers competitive pricing and a range of features.
The BEV version of the Avatr 07 is available in three variants, with prices ranging from RMB 229,900 ($31,360) to RMB 289,900. The BEV model is built on an 800V high-voltage platform, offering a single-motor version with 252 kW of power and 365 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The dual-motor version adds additional power, with a peak output of 188 kW and 280 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate in 3.9 seconds. The BEV variants come with CATL’s Shenxing Battery, offering a CLTC range of 610-650 kilometers depending on the configuration.
The EREV version of the Avatr 07 comes in three variants, priced from RMB 219,900. The EREV models feature a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a CLTC range of 220-230 kilometers on battery power alone. When fully charged and fueled, the total range extends to 1,050-1,100 kilometers. The most powerful EREV variant is equipped with a dual-motor system, delivering a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 4.9 seconds.
Technology and Future Plans
The Avatr 07 incorporates advanced technologies developed in collaboration with Huawei, including its intelligent driving systems. Some variants are equipped with 192-channel LiDAR sensors and are compatible with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 system for enhanced driving assistance. The SUV also features Huawei’s Harmony OS 4.0, contributing to a user-friendly in-car experience.
With the launch of the 07 SUV and plans to introduce additional models in the coming years, Avatr is positioning itself as a key player in China’s evolving electric vehicle market. By offering both BEV and EREV models, the company aims to cater to a wide range of consumers while addressing concerns about range and charging infrastructure.
