The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a formal investigation into 416,000 Tesla cars over reports of unexpected brake activation related to a driver assistance system called Autopilot. The initial investigation includes Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles made in 2021-2022 in the United States (US). The investigation comes after NHTSA received 354 complaints about the matter in the past nine months. United States automaker Ford has started shipping its electric battery van, the first E-Transit to its customers. Manufactured at the Kansas City Plant, this delivery phase marks an important milestone in Ford’s electrification strategy, and takes place before the start of production of the Ford F-150 Lightning later this spring. As previously noted, Ford said that it currently has orders for more than 10,000 vans from more than 300 customers. Volvo Trucks is again innovating by launching a new patented safety feature for electric trucks called Active Grip Control. This new technology will significantly improve stability, acceleration and braking in slippery conditions. This feature has gone through a period of testing conducted with the Volvo FH Electric on a low friction surface with a loaded trailer and demonstrated a 45% improvement at full acceleration. “The improvement over the slippery and gravel roads is really impressive. British automaker Bentley has said it will start production of its first fully electric car in 2025. The announcement is one of the most important milestones in the Volkswagen group’s planned brand shift to a fully electric lineup by 2030. Bentley has also committed to investing US$3.4 billion in sustainability technologies over the next decade. General Motors invest $6.5 billion for electric vehicles and battery manufacturers in Michigan
General Motors (GM) and its joint venture with LG Energy Solution (051910.KS) are ready to announce next week an investment in electric vehicles and a battery factory in Michigan, amounting to $6.5 billion and employing up to 4,000 workers. The Michigan Strategic Fund said on Friday it was considering GM’s plan to invest $6.5 billion in a joint venture between GM and Ultium Cells. In December, Reuters reported that GM had proposed building a $2.5 billion battery plant in Lansing with an additional 1,700 workers. Lamborghini allocated $1.7 billion for the shift to plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles
Lamborghini ends the production of gasoline engine cars (ICE). The luxury sports car manufacturer will use a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engine for the Aventador, Huracan and Urus SUVs in 2023. Sony Group is rumored to be looking for technology partners for the development of their electric vehicles in the future. According to a Reuters report, Sony will try to create an electric car in the near future with the entertainment aspect in it. Jeep has introduced the e-Hybrid variant of the Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade in Europe (20/1). The e-Hybrid comes as a mild hybrid Compass and Renegade variant following the 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant. Looking again at the specifications, the Compass and Renegade e-Hybrid are equipped with a turbo four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1,469 cc combined with a 48 Volt electric motor.
