Lamborghini ends the production of gasoline engine cars (ICE). The luxury sports car manufacturer will use a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engine for the Aventador, Huracan and Urus SUVs in 2023.

As for 2024, Lamborghini is targeting to only produce electric cars. Lamborghini Chief Executive Officer Stephan Winkelmann said the three car models were almost sold out. All three also hit record sales in 2021.

“This will be the last time we offer an internal combustion engine,” Winkelmann said in an interview today, Monday, January 24, 2022.

Lamborghini has invested USD 1.7 billion in hybrid car engines and battery electric cars in the second half of the decade.

Winkelmann explained Lamborghini is working on the final design of its first electric car and is leaning towards a four-door model for everyday use.

A report states Lamborghini plans to launch four new cars this year.

Lamborghini has launched three new products last year, such as the Lamborghini Huracan STO (inspired by the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO and GT3 EVO race cars), the Aventador Ultimae, and the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Countach model.

The Italian brand has shipped 8,405 cars worldwide in 2021. Even the Lamborghini Urus Super SUV recorded sales of 5,021 units, followed by sales of Huracan and Aventador cars.
