Spanish utility Endesa has launched a large-scale pilot on the Balearic island of Menorca to assess how electric vehicles can help stabilise electricity networks through smart charging, as part of a broader European research initiative. The pilot forms part of the EU-backed Flow programme, a four-year project launched in 2022 to study how EV deployment can support energy systems. Endesa’s distribution subsidiary, e-distribución, is leading the work on the island, testing advanced demand-management tools designed to integrate vehicle charging into grid operations more efficiently and securely. The Flow project—short for Flexible Energy Systems Leveraging the Optimal Integration of EVs Deployment…
Electric vehicle charging demand is rising significantly faster than new infrastructure deployment, according to data released by ChargePoint based on more than 100 million charging sessions over the past year. Charging sessions on the company’s network increased 34% year over year, compared with a 16% rise in the number of new charging ports, suggesting a widening capacity gap as EV adoption accelerates. ChargePoint added about 190,000 ports during the period, but utilization grew nearly 20 percentage points faster. EV Roadway has opened a new high-power DC fast-charging station at the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center in Novato, California, expanding public charging capacity along the U.S. Highway 101 corridor, the company said on Tuesday. The site features three Autel MaxiCharger DH480 units, each capable of delivering up to 480 kilowatts, allowing multiple electric vehicles to charge simultaneously. The chargers use liquid-cooled technology and are designed for high-traffic commercial environments, EV Roadway said. U.S. fast-charging network operator EVgo said it is scaling up deployment of North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors following a pilot phase in 2025, with nearly 100 stalls already live across major cities and more than 500 NACS connectors planned by the end of 2026. The expansion comes as demand rises from electric vehicles equipped with native NACS inlets, including Tesla models and a growing number of new EVs from other automakers. EVgo said it expects more than 80% of new electric vehicles sold in North America to be NACS-compatible by 2030, a trend that underpins its rollout strategy. See…
Danish charging software provider Monta has launched an artificial intelligence layer for its platform, aiming to help electric vehicle charging operators manage growing networks more reliably and at greater scale. The new product, called Monta AI, is designed to integrate directly into Monta’s existing charging software and continuously analyse operational data across charging sessions, firmware performance, payments, energy usage and customer support activity. The system is intended to identify issues, recommend corrective actions and provide operators with real-time insights through plain-language queries. Public electric vehicle charging costs fleets more than three times as much as home charging, while smarter charging strategies can significantly reduce emissions and operating costs, according to Rightcharge’s 2026 Annual State of Fleet Charging Report released on Tuesday. The UK-based EV fleet charging payment platform said its analysis of more than 1,000 megawatts of electricity delivered across tens of thousands of charging sessions in 2025 showed public charging averaged 81 pence per kilowatt-hour, compared with 25 pence per kilowatt-hour at home. Despite accounting for just 27% of charging sessions, public charging represented 57% of total fleet energy spend, the…
Dutch fast-charging provider Fastned has secured up to 200 million euros ($218 million) in new bank financing to accelerate the rollout of its electric vehicle charging network across Europe, with initial investments focused on Belgium and Switzerland. Fastned said the new financing framework includes 100 million euros in committed capital available over the next three years, with an option to increase the facility by a further 100 million euros to support expansion into additional markets. The funding is provided by a European banking consortium that includes ABN AMRO, Crédit Agricole, ING, Invest-NL and Rabobank. See also: Fastned Lifts Revenue per…
Electric vehicle charging operator EZO has begun the first phase of a plan to significantly expand charging infrastructure across northern and north-east Scotland, starting with the migration of 177 existing public chargers from the ChargePlace Scotland network to its own platform. The migration marks the opening stage of a 20-year contract under which EZO will ultimately install and operate 570 new charging points across the region by 2028, effectively doubling existing provision. The agreement is the first inter-council contract awarded through the Scottish Government’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund and represents the largest single grant made under the scheme. In the…
Porsche Engineering said it is offering car manufacturers a complete high-voltage charging management software system that supports all major global charging standards and enables intelligent charge planning based on electricity prices, solar power availability and planned departure times. The modular software, developed continuously since 2011, is designed to help manufacturers accelerate the market launch of plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles while managing the growing complexity of worldwide charging infrastructure. Porsche Engineering acts as the central development partner for high-voltage charging management across passenger vehicles with electrified powertrains within the Volkswagen Group, with the system already deployed across 13 vehicle variants.…
ChargePoint said it has deployed public electric vehicle charging infrastructure at rental car locations operated by Midwestern Wheels in Wisconsin, expanding access to chargers at sites in Appleton and Madison while also supporting fleet operations. The partnership allows Midwestern Wheels, an Avis Budget Group licensee, to use a mix of alternating current and direct current chargers for its rental fleet while opening the stations to the wider public. The approach is designed to increase utilization of charging assets and create additional revenue beyond internal fleet needs.
