The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have opened the first electric vehicle fast-charging hub at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, marking a step toward electrifying transportation at one of the region’s busiest travel hubs. Located on Runway Drive near Exit 7 of the Grand Central Parkway, the facility includes 12 high-power charging points rated at up to 350 kW. The site is now the largest single installation within NYPA’s EVolve NY fast-charging network, bringing the total number of chargers in the statewide system to 300. Officials said the chargers can replenish…
German cable and connectivity specialist Phoenix Contact has launched new NACS and CCS Type 1 charging cables for the North American market, designed to support ultra-fast electric vehicle charging at up to 500 kW. The move reflects the rapid adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS), formerly Tesla’s proprietary Supercharger connector, which has become widely accepted across the region and was certified as the SAE J3400 automotive standard at the end of 2023. Phoenix Contact had previously planned to introduce NACS cables by the end of 2024 but delivered earlier, launching SAE-compliant and UL-certified AC charging cables in mid-2024.…
The City of Vienna and municipal utility Wien Energie plan to significantly expand the Austrian capital’s public electric vehicle charging network, with up to 1,000 additional charging points to be installed in the coming years, including ten new fast-charging parks. City officials intend to extend their existing partnership with Wien Energie, subject to approval by the municipal Mobility Committee and subsequent review by the utility’s governing bodies. Rather than committing to a fixed rollout schedule, both partners plan to adjust deployment annually based on actual demand from electric vehicle users. Priority will be given to districts where public charging options…
The London Borough of Harrow plans to deploy 500 curbside electric vehicle chargers on residential streets, targeting households without access to private driveways. The rollout is being carried out in partnership with UK charging provider char.gy and focuses on lamp-post-mounted units designed for convenient home-area charging. So far, 225 chargers have been installed and are operational, with a further 275 scheduled to be deployed by October 2028. The initiative aims to make overnight charging accessible to urban residents who rely on street parking. A U.S.-based charging solutions provider, PowerFlex, has become the largest operator of Plug&Charge-enabled stations within Hubject’s network, integrating more than 5,000 charging devices dedicated to electric vehicle fleets, the company said. The development comes as the number of Plug&Charge-capable vehicles across North America has surpassed one million, underscoring accelerating adoption of automated charging technology. PowerFlex, which focuses on depot charging for commercial fleets, is expanding infrastructure designed to support large-scale electrification of logistics and service vehicles. According to Hubject, the company aims to grow its installed base to 40,000 chargers within two years, potentially maintaining its position as the network’s…
The U.S. state of Massachusetts has announced participants for a statewide Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) demonstration programme that will deploy free bi-directional electric vehicle chargers to school districts, municipal projects and residential users, as part of efforts to integrate electric vehicles into the power grid. The initiative, led by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), is described by the agency as the first programme of its kind in the United States at a statewide scale. Installations are scheduled for completion by summer 2026, with operational data collected throughout the year to evaluate technical performance, costs and regulatory considerations. The chargers will be…
Spanish utility Endesa has launched a large-scale pilot on the Balearic island of Menorca to assess how electric vehicles can help stabilise electricity networks through smart charging, as part of a broader European research initiative. The pilot forms part of the EU-backed Flow programme, a four-year project launched in 2022 to study how EV deployment can support energy systems. Endesa’s distribution subsidiary, e-distribución, is leading the work on the island, testing advanced demand-management tools designed to integrate vehicle charging into grid operations more efficiently and securely. The Flow project—short for Flexible Energy Systems Leveraging the Optimal Integration of EVs Deployment…
Electric vehicle charging demand is rising significantly faster than new infrastructure deployment, according to data released by ChargePoint based on more than 100 million charging sessions over the past year. Charging sessions on the company’s network increased 34% year over year, compared with a 16% rise in the number of new charging ports, suggesting a widening capacity gap as EV adoption accelerates. ChargePoint added about 190,000 ports during the period, but utilization grew nearly 20 percentage points faster. U.S. fast-charging network operator EVgo said it is scaling up deployment of North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors following a pilot phase in 2025, with nearly 100 stalls already live across major cities and more than 500 NACS connectors planned by the end of 2026. The expansion comes as demand rises from electric vehicles equipped with native NACS inlets, including Tesla models and a growing number of new EVs from other automakers. EVgo said it expects more than 80% of new electric vehicles sold in North America to be NACS-compatible by 2030, a trend that underpins its rollout strategy. See…
