Volvo Cars in May 2022 sold 45,952 vehicles, down 28.3 percent over the same month last year, except for electric vehicle sales. Sales of electric vehicles in May grew from a year ago to 7.9 percent. Volvo’s electric vehicle sales represented 33.6 percent of total sales, an increase of 10 percentage points compared to the same month of 2021. The decline in Volvo sales was due to the Covid-19-related lockdown in China affecting the supply chain leading to reduced production capabilities. Swedish mining company Boliden has put into operation its new electric tipper truck, the Scania 25P BEV 6×2. The truck transports a total payload of up to 2,000 tonnes of gold ore for 19 hours a day from the Renströmsgruvan mine to the Concentrator plant in Boliden. AMD has entered into a partnership with NIO to supply chips to the Chinese electric vehicle maker. Under the partnership, NIO will deploy AMD’s EPYC processors in the HPC platform, which is expected to accelerate AI deep learning training. Renault Group cooperates with Managem Group, a Moroccan mining and hydrometallurgical company, to secure the supply of battery raw materials for electric vehicles. Managem Group will supply Renault with 5,000 tonnes of cobalt sulfate per year for a period of 7 years, with the first deliveries in 2025.
