Audi has unveiled its next-generation MHEV Plus hybrid system, a new technology designed to enhance efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and improve performance. The system is featured in the latest A5 and Q5 models, which are built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).

It incorporates advanced components such as a powertrain generator (PTG) and a 48-volt mild hybrid architecture, enabling partially electric driving and better fuel economy. This development represents a significant step in Audi’s broader electrification strategy.

The MHEV Plus system includes a powertrain generator (PTG), a belt alternator starter (BAS), and a lithium iron phosphate battery, all working together to optimize performance and efficiency. The 48-volt electrical system supports the combustion engine by reducing CO2 emissions, enhancing agility, and providing a smoother driving experience. The PTG allows for electric boosting and emission-free coasting at speeds of up to 140 km/h, while regenerative braking recovers up to 25 kW of energy, further improving fuel savings.

The powertrain generator, a compact electric drive module, delivers up to 18 kW (24 PS) of power and 230 Nm of torque at the transmission output, ensuring superior responsiveness, particularly during initial acceleration. The system’s liquid-cooled architecture maintains optimal operating conditions and integrates seamlessly with both front and all-wheel drivetrains.
