Audi has confirmed that its upcoming entry-level electric vehicle will be called the A2 e-tron, marking the return of a historic nameplate as the automaker expands its battery-electric lineup in Europe.
The compact model, positioned below the Q4 e-tron, will be produced at Audi’s main plant in Ingolstadt and is scheduled for a world premiere in autumn 2026, the company said during its annual press conference.

“The A2 e-tron, manufactured in Ingolstadt, will further rejuvenate Audi’s model range and open up access to premium electric mobility,” Audi said in a statement.
Chief Executive Gernot Döllner said the model is designed to meet growing demand for practical and efficient electric vehicles. “We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident,” he said.
“We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever,” he added.

While Audi has not disclosed detailed technical specifications, the A2 e-tron is expected to use the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which underpins models such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born. The platform’s latest updates include improved electric motors and battery options, suggesting similar configurations could be adopted for the Audi model.
The A2 e-tron will target the compact segment, where Audi aims to offer a more premium alternative to existing group models. The company said the vehicle is designed for urban use, with a focus on efficiency, digital connectivity, and everyday practicality.

“With the new A2 e-tron, Audi is targeting a broad international customer base that values everyday usability in the city, sustainability, high efficiency, and digital connectivity,” the company said.
Audi also said the design draws inspiration from the original A2, which was introduced more than 25 years ago and was known for its lightweight construction and efficiency-focused approach. Early images suggest the new model will retain a sloping roofline and distinctive rear design elements.
The A2 e-tron will be the second fully electric model produced in Ingolstadt after the Q6 e-tron, as Audi continues to transition its manufacturing footprint toward electric vehicles.

“The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand and also for our German home. With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany’,” Döllner said.
