Antonio Felix da Costa dominated the Formula E race weekend in Portland, securing victories in both rounds and tightening the championship standings ahead of the final races in London. Driving for Porsche, da Costa’s triumph not only marked a double win at the permanent track in Portland but also extended his winning streak to three consecutive races, a feat last achieved in 2020 when he drove for DS.
The first race on Saturday initially saw Jaguar’s Mitch Evans cross the finish line first, but a time penalty for a collision relegated him to eighth place, handing da Costa the win. Robin Frijns of Envision Jaguar and Jean-Eric Vergne of DS-Penske completed the podium.
Sunday’s race further underscored Porsche and Jaguar’s dominance as da Costa secured another victory, followed by Frijns and Evans, who maintained his podium position despite the penalty.
The Portland races, distinct from the usual street circuits of Formula E, provided a unique challenge with a wider track layout. Despite the spacious track, the competition remained intense, mirroring the chaos often seen on narrower city circuits.
The championship implications were significant for contenders like Nick Cassidy of Jaguar, who failed to score points in either race, allowing Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein to close the gap. Cassidy now leads with 167 points, followed closely by Evans and Wehrlein at 155 points each, with Evans edging ahead in second place based on superior individual results.
In the team standings, Jaguar TCS Racing leads with 322 points, followed by Tag Heuer Porsche with 289 points, setting up a tense battle for the team championship as the season approaches its climax.
