Amperfied, the e-mobility subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, has launched its first direct current (DC) charging solution, marking the company’s entry into the DC fast charging market. The new system, called Amperfied Dynamic DC, was introduced at the Power2Drive trade fair in Munich.
Unlike traditional standalone chargers, the Amperfied Dynamic DC operates as a centralised power unit that can support up to six satellite charging towers, each equipped with two charging points. This modular setup enables dynamic load management across a maximum of 12 vehicles, optimising energy distribution based on vehicle type and number. The flexible architecture allows operators to scale capacity as needed without permanently allocating unused power, which the company says offers a clear advantage over fixed-output alternatives.
Depending on configuration, the system supports charging at up to 300 amps and 240kW when fully expanded with 12 outlets. For higher-output requirements, the unit can be set to operate with up to eight charging points delivering as much as 500 amps and 480kW using CCS2 connectors. The design also allows the charging towers to be placed at a distance from the central unit, with a slim profile and touchscreen interface aimed at saving space and improving user accessibility.
The system is built on the PIONIX BaseCamp platform, offering predictive maintenance, real-time monitoring, and a modern user interface. Amperfied is also introducing a usage-based service model to lower upfront costs for infrastructure operators. Under this arrangement, clients are billed based on charging availability rather than equipment purchase, aligning operator costs with energy sales performance.
“Instead of buying pure hardware, our customers only pay when they can actually sell energy,” said Robin Karpp, Managing Director at Amperfied. “This is how we create aligned interests. We are responsible for a functioning charging infrastructure. The operators only have to worry about the utilisation of the charging park.”
The launch represents a strategic shift for Heidelberg, which has previously focused on AC home charging solutions, and positions Amperfied to compete in the growing commercial EV charging market.
