Amazon is evaluating General Motors’s BrightDrop electric vans as part of its ongoing efforts to electrify its delivery fleet, the e-commerce company confirmed.

“We’re committed to having 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030, and we regularly test various vehicle options — including a small number of Chevrolet BrightDrops in our fleet,” said Steve Kelly, an Amazon spokesperson, in an emailed statement to Bloomberg.

The pilot program involves a modest number of BrightDrop vans, estimated at around 12 vehicles. They join a fleet that includes models from Rivian Automotive Inc., Ford Motor Co., Mercedes-Benz Group AG, and Stellantis NV. Amazon placed a large order with Rivian for 100,000 electric vans, part of a broader sustainability strategy emphasizing electric delivery vehicles.

A GM spokeswoman confirmed the company sold Amazon a small batch of BrightDrop vans in 2023. GM launched BrightDrop in 2021 to target fleet customers, providing both electric vans and accompanying software for shipment and delivery tracking. The business unit was later merged into GM Envolve amid slow uptake, though GM continues to sell electric vans, albeit in limited volumes. Chevrolet sold fewer than 1,600 BrightDrop units in the first half of 2025, compared with over 3,200 Cadillac Escalade IQs during the same period.

Amazon’s fleet already includes more than 31,000 electric vehicles, with over 24,000 from Rivian. The company also works with contract delivery firms that operate gasoline-powered vehicles as well as leased electric vans, including BrightDrop models. Substituting electric vehicles for conventional ones remains a cornerstone of Amazon’s carbon reduction strategy, which aims to lower emissions across its vast logistics network.
