British startup Advanced Electric Machines (AEM) will unveil a 3D model of its largest and highest-torque electric motor to date at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, Germany, in September 2026. The new motor, called Titan, is being developed for heavy-duty applications, with first samples expected to be available in the third quarter of 2027.
AEM specializes in electric motors designed without rare earth materials and will present Titan as the latest development of its Heavy Duty Rare-earth-free Motor (HDRM) family.
Titan Expands AEM’s Heavy-Duty Motor Range
AEM will present Titan at IAA Transportation, which takes place in Hannover from September 15 to 20, 2026.
The company currently offers the HDRM150 and HDRM300C motors for commercial vehicle and industrial applications. AEM describes Titan as the largest and highest-torque motor in the HDRM family so far.

The company has not yet disclosed Titan’s power or torque figures.
The public premiere will use a live-digital format, allowing visitors to explore a detailed 3D model of the motor and examine AEM’s next-generation heavy-duty platform.
HDRM150 Demonstrates Air-Cooled Electric Drive
Alongside the Titan presentation, AEM will showcase its integrated air-cooled HDRM150 electric drive system.
The drop-in auxiliary drive operates at up to 700 volts and delivers around 30 kW of peak output. It combines the HDRM150 motor with an air-cooled inverter and does not require liquid cooling or rare earth elements.
AEM is targeting the system at demanding auxiliary applications in the off-highway sector.
The HDRM150 will also be demonstrated at the SAF-HOLLAND stand, where it is integrated into the company’s e-axle and operates as a generator for regenerative energy recovery.
AEM will exhibit at Stand B40 in Hall 12.
Rare-Earth-Free Motor Technology
AEM originated from Newcastle University in 2017 and has focused primarily on magnet-free electric motors designed to eliminate the use of rare earth elements.
The company says its electric motors are designed around readily available and recyclable materials such as steel and aluminium. AEM has not disclosed the specific operating principle of its motors.

The company also claims its technology avoids copper, distinguishing it from other rare-earth-free motor approaches such as asynchronous and externally excited synchronous motors.
James Widmer, CEO of Advanced Electric Machines, said Titan builds on the company’s existing HDRM technology while addressing supply-chain considerations.

Widmer said AEM’s integrated air-cooled drivetrain is also intended to simplify electrification and reduce dependence on rare earth materials.
AEM Expands Automotive Customer Base
AEM has recently announced two development contracts with companies in the passenger car industry, expanding its activities beyond commercial and industrial applications.
The contracts come after a period of financial pressure for the company. AEM recorded turnover of £5 million in 2022, which fell to £2.2 million in 2023 before increasing to £2.9 million in 2024.
The company reported a loss of £8.3 million in 2024. The result was partly affected by the loss of one of its main customers, Tevva Electric Trucks, and inventory write-offs.
Advanced Electric Machines Secures Development Deal with Major Automotive Supplier
AEM said that since the previous IAA Transportation event two years ago, it has expanded its global presence, strengthened its product portfolio and secured contracts with multinational companies.
Titan will represent the next stage of that product development when AEM presents the heavy-duty motor technology to the commercial vehicle industry in Hannover.
