ABB, the Swiss technology company, has introduced its latest innovation in the electric vehicle charging sector – the A400 HPC charging station. This new product boasts exceptional reliability and offers two connections with 200 kW continuous charging power each, or up to 400 kW for a single vehicle.

Unlike ABB’s Terra-HP series, which features a split system and modular adaptability for charging capacities ranging from 175 to 500 kW, the A400 presents an “all-in-one” charging solution. It can deliver up to 400 kW to a single vehicle, with dynamic power distribution allowing for simultaneous charging of two vehicles via CCS connectors.

The A400 incorporates specially developed silicon carbide power modules arranged in 100 kW blocks and a new two-phase cooling technology for the charging plug, capable of handling up to 600 amps. Measuring 2,300 x 810 x 790 millimeters, it occupies 0.64 square meters of floor space and features a 4.8-meter cable length. The station is operated via a 32-inch screen with integrated credit card payment, boasting an intuitive user interface akin to a smartphone menu.

One of the key features of the A400 is its cloud-based asset management toolchain, designed to simplify operation and enhance reliability. Michael Halbherr, CEO of ABB E-Mobility, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating a reliable and scalable charging experience, drawing from its extensive experience in the field.

Halbherr stated, “At ABB E-Mobility, we have taken key lessons from our extensive experience and are obsessed with creating a charging experience that is reliable, scalable, managed, and secure, while ensuring interoperability and performance.”

With over 1,500 employees worldwide, ABB E-mobility has sold more than one million chargers in over 85 markets, including over 50,000 DC fast chargers, underscoring its position as a leader in the EV charging industry.
