Mazda has announced plans to bring its EZ-6 electric saloon, already available in China, to European markets under the name Mazda6e. The Japanese automaker unveiled the vehicle at the Brussels Motor Show, marking a significant step in its European electric vehicle (EV) strategy. The model will debut in Germany in the summer of 2025, with prices starting at approximately €45,000. This move coincides with the phasing out of the aging MX-30 electric SUV in Germany and other regions.
The Mazda6e is a product of Mazda’s partnership with Chinese automaker Changan and is based on the EPA1 architecture developed by Changan. First introduced as the EZ-6 at Auto China in 2024, the model has already been available in China in several battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants. For the European market, Mazda will offer two BEV versions of the five-door saloon: the Mazda6e 258 and the Mazda6e 245 Long Range, with the numbers denoting their horsepower.
The Mazda6e 258 features a 68.8 kWh battery with a maximum power output of 190 kW (258 hp) and a range of 479 kilometers. Charging capacity for this version is capped at 95 kW, which is slower compared to market standards for long-range models.
The Mazda6e 245 Long Range offers a larger 80 kWh battery, delivering up to 552 kilometers of range and charging at a rate of 200 kW, allowing it to reach 80% state of charge (SoC) in just 22 minutes. Both models are rear-wheel drive, accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in under eight seconds, and have a top speed of 175 kph.
Mazda has emphasized the Mazda6e’s design and technology as key differentiators. The saloon features frameless doors, retractable door handles, a panoramic glass roof, and an electrically extendable rear spoiler, embodying Mazda’s Kodo Design philosophy.
Inside, the cabin boasts a minimalist yet luxurious aesthetic, highlighted by a 14.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display. Additional features include voice and gesture controls, app-based pre-air conditioning and charging planning, and a standard 14-speaker Sony sound system.
The Mazda6e’s introduction to Europe marks a strategic shift for Mazda as it focuses on modernizing its electric lineup. With the MX-30 soon to exit the German and US markets, the Mazda6e is set to take center stage as the brand’s flagship midsized electric model.
