Norwegian charging station operator Fastcharge is collaborating with Kempower to establish the first truck-exclusive charging hubs in Norway. These hubs are set to become the country’s first dedicated facilities for heavy goods vehicle charging.

Fastcharge, a specialist in charging stations for trucks, plans to roll out several public truck charging stations in Norway by the end of the year. The initial public hub began operations in the Alnabru district of Oslo at the end of July. Additional hubs are scheduled to open in Ringsaker, Sandefjord, Gjesdal, Bergen, and Malvik in the coming months.

The Oslo charging park features stations capable of delivering up to 400 kW per CCS charging point. Future upgrades will include megawatt charging using the MCS standard. Kempower, the hardware manufacturer partnering with Fastcharge, will provide the charging infrastructure, alongside Wennstrom, which will act as a sales and service partner for the project.

Kempower employs a decentralized approach for its DC charging stations, allowing power units with control technology to be located a few meters from the charging stations. This design enables compact and space-efficient satellite chargers. Typically, two 600 kW units can serve several high-power charging (HPC) satellites. At the Oslo site, five power units are used to support nine satellites. Truck drivers can reserve charging slots through the Fastcharge app.

The chargers at these hubs can later be upgraded to MCS standards. Kempower’s system, presented in April, combines two 600 kW power units to support a satellite with a liquid-cooled MCS charging plug, delivering a total output of 1.2 megawatts.

Erik Kanerva, Kempower Sales Director for Northern Europe, called the project “pioneering,” stating, “Offering public, on-the-move charging for trucks that is reliable, scalable, and user-friendly is critical for the adoption of electrical trucks. We look forward to building many more truck charging stations together.”

Harald Grytten, CEO of Fastcharge, emphasized the company’s goals: “We aim to be the natural choice for transportation companies by offering a premium service, and at the same time facilitating the transition to electrification of the transportation fleet with reduced total cost of ownership.”
