Amazon disclosed that it now has 10,000 Rivian electric delivery vans operating in the United States and Europe. This significant expansion of its electric fleet is part of the company’s commitment to put at least 100,000 Rivian electric vans on the road by 2030. In a previous update in July, Amazon stated it had more than 5,000 of these vans in operation.
“Our partnership with Rivian continues to accelerate. We have completed 260 million deliveries with Rivian electric vans,” said an Amazon spokesperson. “Our goal remains unchanged: 100,000 electric delivery vans by 2030.”
The recent update follows Rivian’s own announcement in August, in which the EV maker, known also for its R1T pickup trucks and R1S SUVs, revised its production forecast for the full year of 2023 to 52,000 vehicles. Amazon holds a stake in Rivian and appears to be deepening its commitment to greening its delivery operations.
Beyond Rivian, Amazon is also collaborating with Volvo to introduce heavy-duty electric trucks into its middle-mile delivery fleet. “Volvo committed in 2022 to provide us with 20 EV trucks, furthering our mission to build a sustainable transportation ecosystem,” the Amazon spokesperson added.
This multifaceted approach signals Amazon’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility, as it not only scales its Rivian electric vans but also integrates heavy-duty electric trucks into its operations. The Seattle-based tech giant continues to make strides in moving towards a more sustainable future.
