In recent updates from Tesla, the highly-anticipated Cybertruck has surpassed an astonishing 1.9 million pre-orders, according to a crowd-sourced data tracker. During an Earnings Call, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk expressed his awe at the overwhelming demand, stating, “The demand for the Cybertruck is so off the hook, you can’t even see the hook.”

Tesla’s ambitious plan aims to produce 375,000 Cybertrucks annually at peak capacity. However, given the staggering number of new orders, customers may face an approximate five-year wait for delivery. The Cybertruck is currently being produced at Giga Texas, but there’s a possibility of future production at Giga Mexico, once the proposed factory becomes operational.

The electric automaker has already allowed pre-orders from customers in European and Asian markets. However, the Cybertruck’s considerable size and weight present challenges for international expansion. In some European nations, it may need to be classified as a commercial truck or semi due to its dimensions.

During the Earnings Call, Elon Musk emphasized the Cybertruck’s groundbreaking technology, making it stand out from any other vehicle on the road. He mentioned, “The Cybertruck has a lot of new technology in it, like a lot. It doesn’t look like any other vehicle because it is not like any other vehicle.”

Initially revealed in November 2019, the Cybertruck boasted a promised range of 620 miles for its top-of-the-line quad-motor version. However, sources suggest that delivering this version might be challenging, and the truck is expected to debut with a 350-mile range instead.

The surge in pre-orders from one million in May 2021 to over 1.9 million indicates the Cybertruck’s immense popularity and strong market appeal. As production gears up to meet the overwhelming demand, Tesla faces the exciting challenge of delivering its cutting-edge electric pickup to eager customers while addressing potential international market hurdles and range considerations.
