At the end of 2021, Audi launched a chaging hub in Nuremberg that provides a glimpse of what electric vehicle charging will look like in the future.
Audi’s EV charging station is designed to offer a “premium” charging experience, with various services provided in each unit.
Audi’s EV charging station is shaped like a multi-storey cube, which can be easily built in urban areas. The lower part of the building is used for charging electric cars, while on the upper floor there is an exclusive lounge-style waiting room.
The company built its first EV charging station in the German city of Nuremberg to test the concept. Audi’s EV charging station is equipped with toilets, vending machines, meeting rooms and terraces.
Audi hopes that its EV charging station will enable faster and more efficient EV battery recharging, thus making it easier for EV drivers, especially for those who cannot charge at home.
Customers can easily book this charging space through the myAudi app. Audi’s EV charging hub draws power from the local grid and solar panels mounted on top of the hub. The solar panels mounted on the hub provide an additional 30 kilowatts of energy.
The company plans to expand its electric car charging stations this year to Zurich, Germany, and to Salzburg, Berlin and several other cities in Germany by 2024. If the project is successful, Audi will install more EV charging stations to the country. others, including England.
