Fiat has updated its Topolino electric quadricycle for the 2027 model year, enabling the vehicle to qualify as a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) under US federal regulations and operate on certain public roads.
The revised model has a maximum speed of 40 km/h (25 mph), up from 19 mph (31 km/h) on the version introduced in the United States in July. The increase allows the Topolino to meet the federal speed requirement for LSV classification, subject to applicable state and local regulations.
When Fiat first launched the vehicle in the US, its lower top speed prevented it from qualifying for road use under the LSV category. Customers could purchase the quadricycle for use on private property, but it could not be driven on public roads.
Fiat had previously indicated that the Topolino could receive street-legal capability in late summer 2026, with plans to offer LSV conversion kits by the end of the season. The 2027 update delivers on that plan through a series of technical changes.
The upgraded vehicle can now be driven on public roads with posted speed limits of up to 35 mph (56 km/h), although access remains dependent on state and local requirements.
Existing Owners Eligible for Complimentary Upgrade
Fiat is also offering current Topolino owners a complimentary LSV upgrade. The programme allows customers who purchased 2026 models to bring their vehicles up to the requirements for the updated classification.
Andrew Waterhouse, FIAT North America lead, said the model represents the brand’s expansion into the micromobility market.
“Topolino represents an exciting new chapter for FIAT in North America, bringing the brand’s signature Italian style and la dolce vita lifestyle into the emerging micromobility space.”
He added that the 2027 range introduces additional personalisation options and road-use capability.
“For 2027, we are building on that momentum with new colours, a new open-air body style and low-speed vehicle street-legal capability, giving owners even more freedom to personalise how and where they enjoy their Topolino.”
Three Variants Share the Same Starting Price
The 2027 Topolino range comprises three versions: the standard Topolino, the Dolce Vita and the new Open Air.
The Open Air combines the retractable soft-top roof of the Dolce Vita with the doors fitted to the standard model. All three variants have a starting price of $13,995, excluding the destination fee.
The updated range also features a new full-colour digital instrument display. Across the lineup, the Topolino retains a stated driving range of 46 miles (74 km) and a 6 kW electric motor.
The changes expand the Topolino’s potential use in the US beyond private property, positioning the compact electric quadricycle within the country’s growing low-speed mobility segment.
