Australian truck electrification specialist Janus Electric has secured a repeat order worth approximately AU$3.1 million from California-based King Fio Trucking, covering six Class 8 electric truck conversions and six JBS-650 swappable battery sets.
The order will expand King Fio’s fleet to 12 converted trucks and 14 battery sets for container transport operations around the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The additional vehicles will use the charging and battery-swapping infrastructure installed under the company’s initial order, allowing the operator to increase fleet capacity without building another charging station.
Existing Infrastructure to Support Fleet Expansion
King Fio’s current setup includes a Janus Charge and Change Station equipped with two 250 kW chargers. Janus said the existing infrastructure will support the additional trucks, avoiding the need for a second charging facility as the fleet grows.
The latest order remains subject to approval of the applicable California incentives.
Once the vehicles are delivered, Janus expects 16 converted electric trucks to be operating across the greater Los Angeles area by the end of 2026. The fleet will comprise six vehicles for King Fio, four for Ability Tri-Modal and six for Tradelink.
Janus said the expansion would bring its total operational fleet to 46 vehicles across the United States and Australia.
North American Order Book Reaches 124 Trucks
The King Fio order increases Janus Electric’s North American order book to 124 trucks, representing an aggregate gross contract value of approximately AU$64.6 million. The total includes commitments from other California-based fleet operators, including 67 orders announced in July 2026.
Janus CEO and Managing Director Ben Hutt said the repeat order reflected customer confidence in the company’s conversion technology and battery-swapping model.
“King Fio’s decision to double its order is another strong endorsement from our existing customers of our technology and demonstrates continued demand for our electric truck conversion and battery-swapping solution. Importantly, the additional trucks will use the charging and battery-swapping infrastructure included in King Fio’s original order, demonstrating the scalability of our model and how fleet operators can expand fleets without having to duplicate charging facilities.”
Electrovaya Battery Supply and Investment
The announcement follows a series of developments in Janus Electric’s relationship with Canadian battery manufacturer Electrovaya.
On October 28, Electrovaya agreed to make a strategic equity investment of approximately AU$2 million in Janus through a share placement, subject to completion conditions. The investment is intended to provide additional working capital to support Janus’ expansion in North America.
Janus Electric Wins 67 Truck Conversion Orders From California Fleets
The proposed investment builds on a battery supply agreement established between the companies in July 2025. Janus has since placed initial purchase orders worth approximately AU$37.5 million for Electrovaya battery systems to support its 124 North American truck orders and commitments, with deliveries already underway.
Each Janus truck conversion uses approximately 600 kWh of battery capacity. The battery supply arrangement is therefore a key component of the company’s efforts to fulfil its growing North American order book.
