Chery’s Lepas brand has unveiled the Aura, its first global concept car, offering a preview of the design direction planned for future models as the Chinese automotive group expands its portfolio for international markets.
The concept made its debut in Wuhu, China, on 22 October during Lepas’ first Global Elegant Lifestyle Week. The brand did not disclose technical specifications, powertrain details or plans for a production version.
Leopard-Inspired Design and New Lighting Features
The Aura was developed around a leopard-inspired theme under Lepas’ “Natural Energy” design philosophy. Its exterior features a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a wide stance, giving the concept a low and planted appearance.
At the front, the vehicle introduces new “Leopard” headlights designed to resemble the animal’s eyes. Other styling elements include a porcelain-effect finish, side air intakes and front and rear light screens capable of displaying customized lighting effects and animations.
Lepas also presented three new exterior colours: Dawn Pearl, Bacalar Blue and Provence Twilight.
Ivan Dulanović, global design director at Lepas, said the concept is intended to guide the brand’s future styling rather than serve as an end product.
“The concept is not an end in itself; it is a source of inspiration for the future of Lepas design,” Dulanović said.
Chery Expands Its Portfolio of Distinct Brands
The Aura is the latest in a series of brand and product announcements in Wuhu this month involving Chery and its associated marques. Other names featured include Freelander, Icaur, Omoda and Chery’s Tiggo range.
As the group pursues overseas growth, its expanding portfolio places greater emphasis on establishing distinct identities for individual brands. Design is one way to differentiate their positioning and appeal to different customer groups.
For Lepas, the Aura concept establishes elegance as a central element of its visual identity. While the company has not confirmed which features will reach production vehicles, the concept provides an early indication of the styling cues it may use across its future lineup.
