FAW-Volkswagen’s Jetta brand has launched its first battery-electric vehicle, the M6, with prices starting at 79,800 yuan (approximately $11,880). The electric sedan marks the brand’s entry into China’s competitive entry-level electric vehicle market as it seeks to broaden its appeal amid the rapid growth of new energy vehicles.
The M6 is available in three variants: the 465 Pro at 79,800 yuan, the 555 Max at 89,800 yuan and the 555 Ultra at 99,800 yuan. Pre-sales began on September 28, with prices starting at 80,800 yuan. The official launch price for the entry-level model is 1,000 yuan lower, while the top variant remains at its original pre-sale price.

Battery, Range and Performance
Built on Jetta’s in-house Jiesi architecture and dedicated electric vehicle platform, the M6 uses a single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration.
The entry-level 465 Pro is equipped with a 42.9-kWh battery and a 113-kW electric motor. It delivers a claimed CLTC driving range of 465 km and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
The 555 Max and 555 Ultra feature a larger 51.9-kWh battery and a 145-kW motor. Both versions offer a claimed CLTC range of 555 km and a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 6.8 seconds.
All variants use lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by CALB. The M6 can charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes.
Driver Assistance and Interior Technology
Advanced driver assistance is one of the M6’s key features, although navigation on autopilot (NOA) for city and highway driving is exclusive to the 555 Ultra.
The top-specification model uses Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6M chip and a vision-based assistance system. Its capabilities include memory parking and reverse-path assistance.
Standard equipment across the lineup includes intelligent cruise assistance, automatic emergency braking, automated parking and remote-controlled parking. The vehicle also comes with a heat pump and vehicle-to-load functionality rated at 3.5 kW.
The cabin features an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen with 2.5K resolution. The infotainment system integrates Doubao, DeepSeek and Qwen, while smartphone connectivity supports HiCar, CarLink and Apple CarPlay.
Launch Offers and Ownership Benefits
Jetta has announced launch benefits with a stated combined value of 26,000 yuan. The package includes warranty coverage, trade-in subsidies, financing offers and connected-car data packages. Eligibility requirements vary across the individual benefits.
The offers also include coverage for certain driver-assistance-related accidents during the first year of ownership. This benefit applies to original owners of vehicles equipped with city or highway navigation assistance and used for non-commercial purposes.
Jetta Responds to Changes in China’s Car Market
The M6 represents a significant expansion for a brand historically associated with affordable combustion-engine cars. During the internal combustion engine era, Jetta became one of China’s best-known family-car names, alongside the Volkswagen Santana and Citroën Fukang.
Its reputation for durability, low maintenance costs and affordability helped establish a strong presence in the country’s mass-market segment.
In 2019, Jetta evolved from an individual model into a standalone sub-brand under FAW-Volkswagen, with a focus on family cars. Its annual sales reached approximately 170,000 vehicles in 2021 before growth weakened. Sales declined to 118,000 vehicles in 2025.
The shift toward electric and other new energy vehicles has increased competitive pressure on traditional automakers in China’s budget-car segment. Domestic manufacturers have expanded their EV offerings, challenging brands that have historically relied on combustion-engine models.
Expansion Plans Through 2028
In January, FAW-Volkswagen Jetta Automotive Technology Co Ltd began operations in Chengdu. The new entity provides the brand with greater autonomy over local research and development and is intended to accelerate decision-making.
Jetta plans to introduce five new models by 2028, including four new energy vehicles. Its medium-term target is annual production and sales of between 400,000 and 500,000 vehicles.
The M6 is the first production EV in this broader strategy. Its pricing, driving range and technology package position it to compete in China’s entry-level electric sedan market as Jetta works to adapt its business to changing consumer demand.
