Amsterdam’s public transport operator, GVB, has ordered 84 electric buses from VDL Bus & Coach which will be put into service in 2023. The framework agreement also includes an option for a further 130 VDL Citeas.
Of the 84 electric buses ordered, 30 Citeas type LF-181 and 54 type LF-122. All models ordered use the new electric powertrain.
In the expansion of GVB’s electrified fleet, VDL Bus & Coach will be responsible for implementing the appropriate charging infrastructure. The company has not revealed any further details about the charging system.
GVB has been using electric buses since 2019. In Amsterdam, in addition to the 44 electric buses in operation, another 31 electric buses will be operated in the summer, bringing the total number to 75 this year.
GVB will phase out the last diesel buses and permanently switch to zero-emission VDL Citeas in Amsterdam.
