Li Auto has launched its in-house-developed Lianshan electric powertrain system, covering batteries, electric drive units and charging infrastructure, CnEVPost reported. The company also introduced two lifetime battery fire guarantees as it expands the use of its own battery technology.
Announced at the company’s Power Day event, the guarantees cover battery self-ignition caused by quality issues and fires following collisions or chassis scraping. If a vehicle is scrapped under qualifying circumstances, Li Auto will provide compensation or cover the gap between the vehicle’s damage insurance coverage amount and the actual payout, subject to eligibility conditions.
Battery Technology and Performance
Li Auto said its Lianshan batteries are designed to retain at least 75% of their health after eight years or 160,000 kilometres. Under China’s CLTC test cycle, the new Li L8 offers 430 kilometres of pure electric range, while the 2026 Li i6 reaches 780 kilometres.
The company also reported improvements in battery safety, charging performance and cold-weather power output. Its next-generation 5C ternary lithium cells reportedly operate 12°C cooler during supercharging than conventional 2C cells.
The launch comes as Li Auto shifts more models towards in-house-developed batteries produced through its 50-50 joint venture with Sunwoda. In September, the company also announced plans to invest 2.65 billion yuan (approximately US$394 million) in Sunwoda’s battery subsidiary, Sunwoda EVB, for an 8.79% stake.
Electric Drives and Charging Network
The Lianshan electric drive incorporates proprietary rotor material and redesigned power electronics. Li Auto said these improvements increase driving range while maintaining the system’s overall size. The company also reported that four million of its in-house-developed silicon carbide power chips entered production vehicles over the past year without recorded failures.
Li Auto’s supercharging network now exceeds 4,200 stations, with 5C chargers installed at all its highway supercharging locations. The company reports 99.9% equipment availability and plans to achieve an average of one station every 100 kilometres along major expressway corridors within the year.
Li Auto plans to extend its in-house battery technology across its entire vehicle lineup. The 2026 Li i6, equipped with a 5C battery and Mach chip, is scheduled to launch on October 28, with deliveries expected to begin in early November.
