Electrify America is expanding its deployment of North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors, adding support for the charging interface at high-traffic locations across California and the eastern United States as adoption of the standard accelerates throughout the EV industry.
The expansion will introduce NACS connectors at 14 charging sites, including the company’s first locations equipped exclusively with the Tesla-developed charging standard.
California Rollout Begins
Later this month, Electrify America will begin upgrading five flagship charging hubs in California by replacing selected Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors with NACS plugs while maintaining support for CCS-equipped vehicles.
The first locations include:
- Harrison Street Flagship in San Francisco
- Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara
- Fashion Valley Mall South in San Diego
- Santa Monica Station
- Santa Barbara Flagship
The company said only a portion of CCS connectors will be converted, allowing both charging standards to operate side by side during the transition. Some chargers will be temporarily unavailable while installation work is completed.
First Dedicated NACS Stations
Electrify America also plans to launch its first charging stations equipped entirely with NACS connectors later this summer.
The four dedicated NACS sites will be located in:
- La Mirada, California
- Arcadia, California
- Santa Ana, California
- Diamond Bar, California
The company said the pilot will help evaluate charging demand and utilization as more automakers introduce vehicles with factory-installed NACS charging ports.
East Coast Expansion
The NACS rollout will also extend to five charging locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where selected CCS connectors will be replaced with NACS connectors.
The sites include:
- Wakefern ShopRite 140 in Wyckoff, New Jersey
- Urban Edge Tonnelle Commons in North Bergen, New Jersey
- Wakefern ShopRite 111 in Nutley, New Jersey
- Wakefern ShopRite 407 in Yardley, Pennsylvania
- Wawa Store 0219 in Bristol, Pennsylvania
Following installation, drivers will be able to locate NACS-equipped chargers through the Electrify America mobile app, website, Google Maps and compatible vehicle navigation systems. Chargers featuring NACS connectors will also display clearly marked labels for easier identification.
Supporting the Industry’s Shift to NACS
The expansion reflects the rapid adoption of NACS across the U.S. electric vehicle market.
Originally developed by Tesla, the charging standard has been embraced by a growing number of automotive manufacturers, many of which are introducing new models with native NACS ports while offering adapters to existing CCS-equipped customers during the industry’s transition.
