Rivian is recalling several Rivian R1T electric trucks due to an issue with the airbag sensor. According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filing, the airbags on Rivian electric vehicles do not function when a child is seated in the front seat.
This is Rivian’s first recall and includes 502 R1T vehicles made between September 2021 and April 2022.
Previously, the NHTSA recommended that children under the age of 13 should sit in the back seat, but this is not always possible for various reasons.

Airbags, which can inflate in a minor accident, can injure children sitting in the front seat.
Rivian said the towed vehicle failed to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, ‘Passenger Accident Protection’. The company also said there were no casualties related to this matter.
Retracted front passenger seats will be replaced free of charge at Rivian service centers.
Rivian will notify customers affected by the recall by phone, email, text and message until July 1, 2022.
