Rivian appears set to discontinue the Dual Standard variants of its R1 lineup as the company prepares for the debut of its next-generation model, the Rivian R2.
The automaker recently sent customers an email stating that the “Dual Standard is ending,” indicating that the entry-level battery configurations of both the Rivian R1S and Rivian R1T will soon be phased out.

The R1S Dual Standard currently starts at $76,990 and offers an estimated 270 miles (435 km) of range. The higher-spec R1S Dual begins at $83,990, featuring a larger battery pack and a 329-mile (529 km) range.

Similarly, the R1T Dual Standard starts at $72,990 with 270 miles of range, while the R1T Dual model with a larger battery begins at $79,990.
Rivian has not officially confirmed the reason for the change, but said “we have changes coming to our vehicle lineup later this year,” while encouraging customers to order the Dual Standard variants “while you can.”
The company is also promoting leasing offers starting at $749 per month for 36 months for R1T and R1S Dual Standard models ordered by March 19, including a $3,000 incentive. According to the company’s promotional terms, the offer requires $5,644 due at signing, excluding a $1,895 destination fee.

The move may be linked to the upcoming launch of the R2, which is expected to start at around $45,000. By removing the entry-level R1 variants, Rivian could create clearer pricing separation between the R1 and R2 models while simplifying production at its manufacturing plant in Normal, Illinois.
The R2 is scheduled to debut on March 12, marking a key step in Rivian’s strategy to expand into more affordable electric vehicles and reach a broader customer base.
