Chinese-owned automaker MG Motor has opened orders for the new MG4 EV Urban in Austria, marking the model’s first launch in continental Europe following its debut in the United Kingdom earlier this year.
The entry-level electric hatchback starts at €19,990 under a promotional offer that includes trade-in, environmental and insurance bonuses worth €5,000. Without incentives, the base price would be about €25,000. Deliveries in Austria are expected to begin in April 2026.
Three variants are currently available, all priced below €25,000 with incentives. The base model uses a 43-kWh battery, while higher-trim Comfort and Luxury versions feature a 54-kWh pack priced from €21,990 and €24,990 respectively.
Austria is so far the only European Union market where MG has confirmed availability of the new version. The brand, owned by China’s SAIC Motor, introduced the model in the UK in late January, where MG retains strong brand recognition.
The MG4 EV Urban represents a new generation of the MG4, replacing the previous rear-wheel-drive architecture with front-wheel drive and moving to a new vehicle platform. The updated model is also larger than its predecessor, with increases in length, width, height and wheelbase.
While the Urban version targets the lower end of the market, MG continues to sell the earlier MG4 with larger battery options. In Austria, the MG4 EV Luxury with a 64-kWh battery starts at €38,890, and the extended-range Trophy version with a 77-kWh battery is priced at €42,390. The high-performance all-wheel-drive MG4 EV XPOWER variant is listed at €44,390.
Industry analysts say the aggressive pricing of the Urban model highlights MG’s strategy of competing primarily on affordability as European automakers introduce new electric vehicles at higher price points.
