The AUDI E5 Sportback has been named 2026 China Car of the Year, according to the award’s organisers, marking the first time a newly established automotive brand has received the title within a year of its market debut.
The all-electric fastback is the first production model from AUDI, Audi’s China-exclusive sister brand launched in November 2024 to target the country’s premium electric vehicle segment. The China Car of the Year award is decided by a panel of automotive journalists and industry media in China.

The E5 Sportback is built on Audi’s Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP) and is offered with multiple drivetrain configurations, including rear-wheel drive and quattro all-wheel drive. Depending on specification, the model delivers up to 579 kilowatts of peak power, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and offers a maximum driving range of up to 770 km.
Audi has positioned the AUDI brand as part of a dual-brand strategy in China, combining its global engineering standards with locally developed digital systems and connectivity features. Commenting on the award, Audi AG chief executive Gernot Döllner said: “This award validates our unique approach in China with two strong brands and deep integration of local innovation.”

Production of the E5 Sportback began in Shanghai in August 2025, with customer deliveries starting the following month. The vehicle supports full over-the-air software updates and comes equipped with a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems as standard.
Since its introduction, the E5 Sportback has also received several domestic industry awards related to design, handling and intelligent vehicle technology. Audi plans to expand the AUDI lineup further, with additional electric models scheduled to enter production in 2026.
