Xiaomi is facing delivery delays for its first electric SUV, the YU7, after demand outpaced the company’s current production capacity. The overwhelming response has resulted in wait times of up to one year for some variants, underlining both the market’s enthusiasm and the challenges of ramping up automotive output.
The YU7 launch drew more than 200,000 pre-orders within three minutes, with around 120,000 secured through non-refundable deposits. That figure continued to climb rapidly, reaching 289,000 total pre-orders in the first hour. Within 18 hours, Xiaomi recorded over 240,000 locked-in orders — exceeding the company’s annual production capacity.

Estimated delivery times now vary significantly by model. The entry-level YU7, priced at RMB 253,800 ($34,900), has the longest estimated wait of 56 to 59 weeks. The mid-range YU7 Pro (RMB 279,900) is expected to ship in 50 to 53 weeks, while the top-tier YU7 Max (RMB 329,900) has a projected delivery window of 37 to 40 weeks.
To support buyers managing the extended wait, Xiaomi is offering flexible financing options. These include installment plans with durations from 12 to 60 months, and down payment ranges between 15% and 85% of the total price.

The company has announced plans to expand its production capacity, targeting an annual output of 350,000 units by 2025. Despite this, the current surge in orders has presented a significant logistical test and raised questions about near-term delivery timelines.
Delivery estimates may be adjusted in the future, depending on production progress and other market conditions.
