Zeekr X Approaches Launch in China with Regulatory Filing

The electric vehicle market in China is set to welcome a new player as Zeekr’s third model, the Zeekr X, has been added to the regulatory filing list. This development means that the Zeekr X is one step closer to hitting the market. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Zeekr X is included in the latest batch of models that will soon receive approval for sale in China.

The regulatory process for the Zeekr X is in its final stages, with the last step being the entry into the catalog. The public has a chance to provide feedback on the catalog from February 13th to February 19th, allowing individuals to voice their opinions and suggestions.

The Zeekr X is an all-electric compact car and will be offered in both four and five-seat versions. This is a unique feature, as compact EVs with four seats are rare in China. The model’s dimensions are 4,450mm in length, 1,836mm in width, 1,572mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,750mm. This size makes it larger than the five-seat compact EV Dolphin by BYD, which measures 4,125mm in length, 1,770mm in width, 1,570mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm.

The Zeekr X will come in three different versions, including a dual-motor variant and two single-motor options.

The dual-motor version boasts a front motor with 115 kW of maximum power and a rear motor of 200 kW. The single-motor versions, on the other hand, have a maximum motor power of 200 kW each and can reach top speeds of 190 km/h and 185 km/h respectively. The battery supplier for the Zeekr X is a joint venture between CATL and Geely located in Yibin, Sichuan province.

Zeekr was established as a standalone company in March 2021 and currently sells the Zeekr 001 hatchback and the Zeekr 009 MPV, which are manufactured at the company’s plant in Ningbo, Zhejiang province. However, the Zeekr X will be produced at a Geely plant in Chengdu, Sichuan province.

The Zeekr X has been teased by the company, with previous reports suggesting it could be named the Zeekr 003. However, Zeekr eventually announced that the model would be named the Zeekr X. According to the company, this new model will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds, making it the pinnacle of performance for an A-class SUV.

Geely announced that Zeekr has raised $750 million in Series A funding, bringing its post-investment valuation to $13 billion. Zeekr has also filed a draft registration statement for a potential IPO with the SEC, which was submitted on a confidential basis on December 7th.
