Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Zeekr, a subsidiary of Geely Automobile Holdings, has outlined plans to launch three new models in 2025, including its first hybrid offerings. The announcement was made during a recent company call detailing sales targets for the coming year.
The product lineup for 2025 will include a shooting brake model based on the Zeekr 007 electric sedan in the second quarter, a full-size flagship SUV in the third quarter, and a mid-to-large luxury SUV in the fourth quarter. The SUVs will be available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) configurations. The hybrid system, named Super Hybrid, is designed to combine the benefits of BEVs, PHEVs, and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), offering enhanced efficiency and driving range.
Geely aims to sell 2.71 million vehicles in 2025, with 320,000 units under the Zeekr brand. In 2024, Zeekr delivered 222,123 vehicles, representing an 87% increase from the previous year, though slightly below its target of 230,000 units. The company reported a record monthly delivery of 27,190 vehicles in December 2024.
To support its growth, Zeekr expanded its retail network to 538 stores globally by the end of 2024, with plans to further increase coverage in China’s tier 3 and tier 4 cities. The company aims to extend its presence in these regions from 61% coverage at the end of 2024 to 81% by the end of 2025, expecting significant contributions to sales volumes from these markets.
The move to include hybrid models aligns with shifting consumer preferences in China, where hybrids have gained popularity for alleviating range anxiety associated with fully electric vehicles. Most domestic automakers, apart from Nio, have already introduced or are planning to introduce hybrid options. Zeekr’s diversification reflects the growing demand for hybrid systems as the EV market evolves, positioning the company to compete more effectively in an increasingly crowded industry.
