Xpeng has launched the extended-range version of its X9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), offering a combined driving range of up to 1,602 kilometers, as the Chinese electric vehicle maker broadens its lineup to include extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).

The seven-seat X9 EREV was introduced at a technology event in Guangzhou, where Xpeng is headquartered, and is now available for pre-sale ahead of its official market launch later this month.

Two variants are offered: the 1602 Max, priced at RMB 350,000 ($49,150), and the 1602 Ultra at RMB 370,000. The model sits above the existing battery-electric versions of the X9, which range from RMB 359,800 to RMB 419,800.

Equipped with the company’s Kunpeng Super Electric System, the X9 EREV combines electric driving capability with a range extender for long-distance travel. It features a 63.3-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery from CALB, providing a CLTC-rated electric range of 452 kilometers.

When combined with its 60-liter fuel tank, total range reaches 1,602 kilometers. Built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform, the vehicle supports 5C charging, allowing 313 kilometers of range to be added in just 10 minutes.

The X9 EREV uses a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup producing 210 kW of power and 465 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds. The Max variant includes one Xpeng-developed Turing AI chip delivering 750 TOPS of computing power, while the Ultra variant incorporates three chips for a total of 2,250 TOPS. The interior runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295P processor, a common choice for high-end EVs.

First launched in January 2024 as an all-electric MPV, the X9 has become Xpeng’s flagship model. Between January and September, the vehicle accounted for 16,120 units, or around 5% of Xpeng’s total deliveries of 313,196 vehicles. With the introduction of the EREV version, Xpeng aims to attract a broader customer base and boost overall sales. The company is also preparing EREV variants of its G7, G6, and P7+ models, expected to launch next year.
