Chinese electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer Xpeng reported a slight rebound in deliveries last month, with its new brand MONA (Made of New AI) slated to debut in June.
In April, Xpeng delivered 9,393 vehicles, marking a 4.07 percent increase from March and a 32.69 percent rise year-on-year. The company’s deliveries for the January-April period totaled 31,214 vehicles, up 23.33 percent compared to the same period last year.
The Xpeng X9 MPV, priced at RMB 359,800 ($49,700), recorded 1,959 deliveries in April, bringing its cumulative deliveries close to 10,000 vehicles since its launch at the 2023 Guangzhou auto show on November 17, 2023. The X9 officially hit the market on January 1 and began deliveries on January 16.
Xpeng’s chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, had previously announced plans to launch the MONA brand within a month during the China EV100 Forum in Beijing on March 16. The new brand will target the market with a price range of RMB 100,000 to RMB 150,000 yuan.
The MONA project, distinct from Xpeng’s main brand, was initially unveiled during the acquisition of Didi Global’s EV business on August 28, 2023. The first model under the MONA program, an A-class smart EV, is set to launch in 2024.
In April, Xpeng reported that the monthly active user penetration rate of its XNGP (Xpeng navigation guided pilot) in urban driving scenarios reached 82 percent. The company also completed NGP functionality testing on German highways and is progressing in developing highway NGP for overseas markets.
Xpeng showcased its latest AI innovations, including XOS 5.1.0 or the Tianji OS, at the 2024 Beijing auto show. The XOS, set for release on May 20, integrates AI into smart cockpits and smart driving, making it the industry’s first operating system to do so.
The company also previewed the AI Valet Driver feature, which can memorize and customize up to 10 driving routes of 100 kilometers each, ensuring seamless nationwide coverage regardless of XNGP availability.
