Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Xpeng has unveiled plans to penetrate the Australian market in its latest internationalization drive. Partnering with Australian distributor TrueEV, Xpeng aims to introduce its EV lineup to local consumers through branded showrooms and tailored customer support.

TrueEV will serve as the exclusive importer, distributor, and retailer of Xpeng vehicles in Australia, with the Xpeng G6 SUV slated to debut in the country by the fourth quarter of 2024. The G6, developed for global markets, is built on Xpeng’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA) 2.0, laying the groundwork for forthcoming models.

Alex Tang, Xpeng’s General Manager of International Markets, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “The partnership with TrueEV in Australia is recognized as a significant step forward in our global expansion strategy.”

He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of Xpeng, highlighted 2024 as the inaugural year of V 2.0 for the company’s internationalization endeavors, signaling a concerted effort to ramp up overseas market presence. Xpeng’s management confirmed plans to expedite entry into overseas markets in 2024, with the global launch of a left-hand-drive G6 version in the second quarter and a right-hand-drive version in the latter half of the year.

The G6, positioned as a competitor to Tesla’s Model Y, boasts a starting price of RMB 199,900 ($27,670) in China, undercutting the Model Y’s RMB 249,900.

Xpeng’s foray into Australia follows a series of dealer partnership announcements in various regions, including the UAE, Egypt, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau, indicating a concerted effort to solidify its position in the smart EV sector on a global scale.
