Xpeng has begun global shipments of the Mona L05 electric SUV ahead of its official launch in China, with the company planning to sell the model in 65 countries and regions.
The Chinese electric vehicle maker announced the shipments on Weibo on Monday. It also confirmed that the Mona L05 will make its China debut on October 29, alongside a gathering for owners under the “Mona World” name.
Xpeng did not disclose the number of vehicles included in the initial shipment, their destinations or delivery schedules for individual overseas markets.
Global Testing and Market Expansion
The Mona L05 is the third model in Xpeng’s Mona lineup, which targets younger consumers. The five-seat mid-size SUV sits above the Mona L03, launched in July.
According to promotional materials released by Xpeng, the left- and right-hand-drive versions were developed in parallel. The company said 660 vehicles were deployed for extreme-condition testing across 25 countries and regions.
Testing included high-speed cabin noise assessments in Germany, powertrain evaluations at high altitudes in Mexico, and reliability tests at temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) in the United Arab Emirates and falling to minus 25 degrees Celsius in Norway.
The global shipment announcement did not specify which powertrain configurations would be available in each overseas market.
Turing AI Technology and Safety Features
Xpeng’s promotional images also previewed the European introduction of its Turing AI driver-assistance technology. The materials highlighted the company’s second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model and up to 1,500 TOPS of effective computing power. Xpeng has not announced a rollout date for the technology in Europe.
The company said the Mona L05 was developed to meet five-star safety standards in China, Europe and Australia. Listed safety equipment includes seven airbags, a body structure using materials in the 2,000 MPa strength class and multiple layers of battery protection.
The promotional materials referenced C-NCAP 2024, Euro NCAP 2027 and ANCAP 2027. However, Xpeng did not disclose actual crash-test ratings for the vehicle, so the references should not be interpreted as confirmed test results.
China Pre-Sales and Driving Range
Xpeng opened pre-sales for the Mona L05 in China on October 15, with prices starting at 169,800 yuan ($25,280). The five-variant lineup includes battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configurations, with pre-sales prices reaching 191,800 yuan.
Based on specifications released during the pre-sales launch, the BEV versions offer a maximum CLTC-rated range of 635 kilometers (395 miles). The EREV versions provide a CLTC-rated electric-only range of 310 kilometers and a combined range of 1,310 kilometers with a full battery and fuel tank.
These figures apply to the specifications announced for the Chinese market. Xpeng has not confirmed whether overseas versions will use the same powertrains or offer identical range figures.
Xpeng Expands Its Global Lineup
The Mona L05’s international shipments mark another step in Xpeng’s effort to expand its model range and reach more overseas markets. Beginning shipments before the China launch also gives the company an early start on its planned international rollout, although market-specific launch and delivery schedules remain unconfirmed.
The expansion comes as Xpeng works to sustain growth in vehicle deliveries. While monthly deliveries have recovered, the company’s year-to-date total remains below the level recorded a year earlier.
