Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car division of Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng, announced that its application for a Production Certificate for the flying body of its “Land Aircraft Carrier” flying car has been accepted by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). This marks a significant step in the review process for the company’s mass-production system for flying cars.
The “Land Aircraft Carrier” is a modular flying vehicle that consists of a flying body, code-named X3-F, and a parent vehicle capable of recharging the flying body. The Type Certificate application for the flying body was first accepted by the CAAC on March 21, 2024, and the review has now progressed to the compliance confirmation phase, according to Xpeng Aeroht.

The company plans to cooperate with the CAAC’s validation process, which is critical to meeting its goal of launching mass production and delivery of the flying car by 2026. A Production Certificate, which verifies that the manufacturer has established a production system and quality control for aviation products, is necessary for commercial production.

Xpeng Aeroht has also made significant progress on its manufacturing facility, with the main body of the final assembly shop, paint shop, joining shop, and compounding shop now completed. The mass production plant is currently 70% finished and is expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of this year.
Once the company completes the certification process, including obtaining an Airworthiness Certificate and Air Operator Certificate, it will be allowed to begin commercial operations. The company referenced the example of industry competitor Ehang, which is also undergoing similar certification processes.
